Hey everyone,

I need some help. I am trying to figure out the perfect book to get for my friend's boyfriend (the couple are Dub's God Parents). He's like 30ish, slightly non computer geeky, enjoys reading things that challenge the mind a little. I am having the hardest time. I guess it is mostly because the last few books I have read are mostly fluff. I know I have some good literary geeky friends.

What do you recommend?

I thought of that. I have no idea. I know that she leaned the other way the last time we had any discussion on it, but that was years ago, and she is out of the craziness that was surrounding her at the time. I like to think he is an Obama fan, but I have never asked. I may need to bother her about it.

When I do book presents I usually just fall back on getting Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson.

Cryptonomicon is good too.

I think Stephenson is a good bet for book gifts. I usually find that most people enjoy his work.

Usually anything by Vonnegut is a good read and not fluff. Also, there are two books out there by Scott Adams, creator of Dilbert, which are good reads and stimulate the mind with new ideas.

The Scott Adams books are God's Debris and The Religion War. They are not religious as the names lead you to believe.

the viels of azlarock, or maybe it was azlarok, old sci fi ish book, but not really, about how time and space are all illusionary and at this very moment you are sitting on and walking through the people of the past and future, i did not sleep for months after reading it for fear that there were people sleeping in my bed, or walking through me while i slept, of course, i was alot younger...late teens? although, to tell you the truth, i have a feeling i would not feel much different if i read it today, it is really simple, yet really brings up alot of questions that will plague him for the rest of his life.

Yeah, just what Melissa needs, Matt to be more paranoid. He's not exactly paranoid, but he is a wee bit OCD, and I think he could go paranoid. She would never forgive me. Haha.
